The Moon Traveler Lamp takes inspi- ration in the story of the Greenlandic shaman and his spiritual travels to the mythic figure, the ‘Man of the Moon’.
The shaman went on spiritual travels in order to restore the balance in nature. Among them was the ‘Mother of the Sea’ and the ‘Man of the Moon’.
With help from the beat of the Green- landic drum, the shaman, who was all tied up and placed on the floor, went into a trance. To prevent him from being recognised by evil spirits on his journey he would paint his face black.
The lamp is an interpretation of this séance. Through the beat of the drum, which is represented as the shade, the shaman is calling the spirits. Like a light- house the light glows through the shade. The shade is mounted on a construction that draws references to the globe to emphasize the traveling aspect.
