Presented within a former alpine stable reimagined as an atelier, the exhibition unfolds in close dialogue with its surroundings. Framed by expansive views of Lake Sils, the space privileges calm, proportion, and material clarity, allowing the landscape to take a central role. Etage Projects presents new designs as part of a lived spatial narrative, where creation, architecture, and place quietly converge.
A former gallerist and collector and her partner commissioned Kueng Caputo to transform the former stable into a studio for their artist-in-residence program. With complete creative freedom, the designers reinterpreted the existing structure, focusing on the serenity of the site and its generous spatial qualities.
At the heart of the building, a large barn door opens onto sweeping views of Lake Sils in Sils Maria. Rather than competing with the landscape, the design foregrounds the lake as the central protagonist. The result is a spacious atelier where the act of creation takes center stage. A semi-circular wall subtly conceals the bathroom, shower, and kitchen, establishing a restrained spatial organization that is playfully contrasted by colorful chalk tiles custom made in Italy for the bathroom.
