Natural Material Studio

Bonnie Hvillum (b. 1988, Denmark) is the Founder and Creative Director of Natural Material Studio. She holds an MA in Interaction Design (2017) and a BA in Nordic Art and Literature(2014) from Aarhus University, Denmark. In 2016, she completed a fellowship in Systemic Philosophy, followed by the European program Material Designers in 2019. That same year, she founded Natural Material Studio to explore the intersection of design, sustainability and material innovation. In 2020, she co-founded The Material Way, an international learning platform dedicated to bio-based materials, focusing on methodologies and practical creation. Recognized for her work, Bonnie received the Frame Designer of the Year Award in 2024 and Dezeen Bentley Lighthouse Award in 2023. She is a regular speaker at international events and serves on the judging panel for the Dezeen Sustainability Award.

Natural Material Studio has exhibited internationally, and been part of exhibitions at Copenhagen Contemporary, Design Museum Denmark and the Danish Architecture Centre.
